Abstract

This article explores the impact and trends of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education through a bibliographic study of the Scopus database. A three-stage document review methodology was employed: a bibliometric analysis of publications, a thematic analysis of the ten most recent open access articles, and data integration with a holistic view of the topic. The findings reveal that the transformation of higher education following the introduction of AI has reshaped the personalization of learning, the automation of assessments and the optimization of university management. The adoption of AI in universities faces challenges such as: technological inequality, inadequate infrastructure and has highlighted various ethical concerns related to malpractice, privacy and fairness. The findings provide a solid foundation for future research and effective implementation of AI in educational contexts
