Fluoride in toothpastes at the “friends of the elderly” foundation, Santo Domingo, Ecuador

Abstract

Objective: To assess the use of fluoride in oral hygiene elements in older adults. Method: An observational scientific review investigation was carried out, 20 individuals residing in the "Friends of the Third Age" Foundation in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas were selected; A survey and an information collection instrument were carried out .Results and conclusions: The average age of the patients was 75 years, the most consumed hygiene element in the foundation was toothpaste, specifically the Colgate brand, with respect to the use of fluoride, the optimal level of fluoride and the amount of toothpaste that should be used in each brush was revealed. The findings found reveal that most of the older adults were unaware of fluoride, and therefore their hygiene routine was not adequate; situation that made them more susceptible to periodontal diseases.
