Circular economy and its fiscal impact on Ecuador's commercial transportation sector

This study analyses innovative tax planning practices in the context of the circular economy in transport. A survey was conducted with 34 accountants from transport companies in Cuenca, Ecuador. The results show a high recognition of the importance of the circular economy, but also identify challenges such as lack of knowledge and resistance to change. The influence of government policies and the need for capacity building to adopt sustainable practices are also highlighted. Fiscal reforms, incentives and collaboration between government, the private sector and society are urgently needed to promote sustainability in transport. Differences in familiarity with the circular economy are also observed between the city of Cuenca, Ecuador and Mexico City, highlighting the need for educational programs in Cuenca to improve understanding and adoption of sustainable practices.
