Objective: To analyze the knowledge about HIV in obstetrics students of the Universidad Regional Autónoma de Los Andes. Method: Descriptive observational study in a population of 45 students. Results: 60% of the students responded that HIV cannot be transmitted through physical contact such as kissing on the mouth, since they do not entail any risk for HIV transmission. Conclusion: Knowledge about HIV among midwifery students at the Universidad Regional Autónoma de Los Andes is generally adequate, although critical areas requiring attention were identified, such as the differentiation between HIV and AIDS, myths about its transmission, and lack of clarity regarding the appropriate time to get tested after a possible exposure. Although students demonstrate an understanding of the most common transmission mechanisms, gaps persist that could affect their cognitive and procedural skills.
