Abstract

Objective: To analyze nursing care in patients under mechanical ventilation prior to endotracheal tube removal. Method: Descriptive documentary. Results and Conclusion: Nursing care in patients under mechanical ventilation prior to endotracheal tube removal should be specific, sequential and based on the application of standardized protocols which include monitoring vital parameters, ensuring the integrity of the airway, instructing the patient about the process and assisting him/her until he/she can breathe on his/her own because this way the time of assisted ventilation and its possible complications can be reduced.
