Abstract

Objective: To determine the prevalence of smoking habits in university students associated with the self-perception of oral health in relation to the harmful effects that can be caused by the use of conventional and electronic cigarettes. Methods: Descriptive observational study. Results: The fundamental data of interest are centered on the prevalence of smokers corresponding to 39.1% (n=109) yes and 60.9% (n=170) no, in addition to the level of knowledge about the subject, naming the conventional cigarette as very harmful in 83.2% (n=232) and the electronic cigarette as little/not harmful in 57% (n=159), among other variables that will be taken into account in their respective analysis. Conclusion: The data obtained in the study show the high prevalence of smoking habits among university students, as well as the lack of awareness of the harmful effects of smoking.
