Abstract

Objective: To analyze the causes, consequences, and other problems in university students brought about by the excessive consumption of these narcotic substances, alcohol, tobacco and others. Method: Descriptive observational study. Results: Of a total of 345 responses obtained in the survey, 73.9% (n=255) consumed alcohol, 35.4% (n=22) consumed tobacco, 13.6% (n=47) marijuana, 6.1% (n=21) cocaine, 0.9% (n=3) others and 23.5% (n=81) none. Conclusion: It is concluded that young university students have several problems in their academic performance, presenting a denial in the effects that excessive alcohol consumption produces in their mental health; and at the same time, the factors that lead them to consume come hand in hand with psychological problems, fitting into society and mostly out of curiosity.
