Objective: the aim of this study is to analyze the triggering factors of bruxism and the possible relationship between this disease and temporomandibular dysfunction. Method: Documentary bibliographic research. Results: 15 articles related to the subject were selected. Conclusion: The mechanism of the relationship between bruxism and temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) has not yet been demonstrated, and some patients who suffer from bruxism suffer from consequences that involve pain in the masticatory muscles (TMD) due to the force of clenching the teeth. Bruxism may be linked to the problems associated with TMD, therefore, patients are more likely to experience signs and symptoms such as dental pain, tooth loss, tooth misalignment, tooth wear, gum recession and attrition.
