The aim of the present study was to evaluate the incidence of plyometric training through the application of an experimental program during eight weeks to improve vertical jump and speed in basketball players. It was considered a quasi-experimental research with a control group. The Bosco test was used to evaluate the jump without counter movement, jump with counter movement and Abalakov. The results showed that the application of the intervention plan had a positive effect on the vertical jump and speed of the experimental group, while in the control group there were no significant changes. It is concluded that the training program applied to the experimental group based on plyometrics presented higher scores in the vertical jump and speed of the basketball athletes with respect to the control group. Studies of similar or longer duration should test these results in different ages, sexes and sports.
