The fundamental right to food security in Latin America. A comparative study

Since the beginning of the present century, issues related to food security have gained prominence. This article presents an analysis of the legal framework on food security in Latin America through a comparative study in eight countries: Guatemala, Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Peru, and Mexico. The aim is to evaluate how these legislations guarantee the right to food, identifying similarities, differences, and challenges in their implementation. A qualitative approach was employed, with documentary review as the main methodological resource. The analysis reveals significant advances, such as the consolidation of intersectoral systems and the strengthening of sustainable agriculture, although structural challenges such as poverty, inequality, political crises, and the effects of climate change persist. The studied regulations promote public policies aimed at food availability, accessibility, and sustainability, with an emphasis on vulnerable sectors.
