Extortion, a multi-faceted criminal modality and its significant impact on the victim, Babahoyo, Ecuador

The general objective of the research was to legally analyze extortion as a pluriofensive criminal modality and its significant impact on the victim, Babahoyo, Ecuador. The researchers proposed as a method for the development of the research work the quantitative approach, through the exploration, collection and critical analysis by means of a documentary typology, supported by the bibliographic design, building methods related to the judgment of the phenomenon and thus evaluate or discuss new arguments. The population corresponded to a group of men and women who are inhabitants of the Babahoyo canton. The people who participated in this research could give their consent. Seventy inhabitants were selected. It is concluded that the authorities are doing little or nothing to control extortion, which increases fear, anxiety and uncertainty in the inhabitants, because there is no full commitment on the part of the authorities to provide citizen security.
