Abstract

Introduction: A 65-year-old Afro-descendant woman from the province of Esmeraldas with a history of skin cancer, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, and chronic arterial hypertension was admitted to the emergency department with dysphagia and cervical mass. Clinical case: On admission he presented high levels of PTH and serum calcium, so it was decided to perform a total thyroidectomy plus excision of a nodule in the lower pole of the right lobe. During the postoperative period, PTH levels remained elevated and the histopathological study did not show the presence of parathyroid adenoma. Conclusion:  Ectopic parathyroid adenoma was highly suspected, so cervical ultrasound and FNA were performed, which allowed determining the location of the nodule to later perform cervical dissection and excision of the nodule, subsequently improving the patient's PTH and serum calcium levels until she was discharged from the hospital
