Abstract

Objective: To determine the association between maternal mortality and preeclampsia in pregnant women admitted to the intensive care unit. Method: An observational, retrospective, cross-sectional and analytical study with a quantitative approach at relational level was conducted. 401 pregnant women admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital of Guayaquil during 2021 were included. A data collection form with dichotomous categorical variable "YES/NO" processed in MS Excel was used. Spearman correlation coefficient was applied using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25.0.0.0 software. Results: 14% of admitted pregnant women presented preeclampsia. Mortality from this diagnosis was 0.3%. A p-value of 0.015 and Spearman's Rho coefficient of 0.122 were obtained. The most affected age group was 26 to 39 years (57%) and multiparous pregnant women represented 67%.
