Objective: To describe the pigmentations due to excessive consumption of iron in dental pieces. Method: Descriptive documentary study, 16 articles published in PubMed and Scopus were reviewed. Conclusion: Dental pigmentation caused by excessive consumption of iron, especially in children who receive prolonged treatment with ferrous sulfate, represents a clinical challenge, although mostly esthetic. These extrinsic stains, although removable by dental prophylaxis, can negatively impact the perception of oral health and self-esteem of young patients.
