Abstract

Objective: to describe foot and mouth disease, its transmission and epidemiological surveillance. Methods: Documentary descriptive. Conclusion: A comprehensive understanding of foot and mouth disease (FMD), its transmission and epidemiological surveillance highlights the need for personalised and adaptive approaches to the effective control of this highly contagious disease. Recent advances in the reconstruction of transmission networks, the application of genomic technologies and the development of more effective vaccines reinforce the importance of constant surveillance and proactive management.
