Objective: to describe relevant and topical aspects of intestinal coccidiosis in rabbits and guinea pigs. Method: Descriptive documentary. Conclusion: Intestinal coccidiosis in rabbits and guinea pigs, supported by recent advances in research on Cryptosporidium spp., highlights the complexity and genetic diversity of these parasites, which demands more specific and precise approaches to their diagnosis and control. The identification of new species and subtypes, together with growing concern about their zoonotic potential, underlines the need for integrated management that addresses both animal and public health.
