Abstract

Objective: To analyze the repercussions of nutritive and non-nutritive sucking in early childhood. Method: Descriptive documentary. Conclusion: Nutritive and non-nutritive sucking in early childhood has a significant impact on the orofacial development and dental health of children. While nutritive sucking, such as breastfeeding, generally promotes proper occlusal development and protects against malocclusions, prolonged non-nutritive sucking, such as pacifier use and digital sucking, is associated with an increased risk of developing dental problems, including malocclusions that may persist or worsen over time.
