Abstract

Objective: To determine the level of knowledge of the nursing staff in the protocolized actions for central venous catheter maintenance in pediatric patients of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit of the Roberto Gilbert Elizalde Hospital. Methods: Descriptive observational study. Results: 57% of central venous catheter complications were bacteremia. Conclusion: Regarding the level of knowledge of the staff of the Roberto Gilbert Hospital of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit about biosafety measures in the administration of central catheters, based on the results it was possible to conclude that the staff is highly trained to handle a central venous catheter and to recognize the biosafety measures for the permanence of the catheter.
