Nursing care in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding and chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis

Objective: to identify appropriate nursing care in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding and stage 5 chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis. Method: Descriptive documentary. Results and Conclusion: The nursing care that should be carried out in patients with digestive bleeding and stage 5 chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis, initially includes the correct priming of the dialyzer and circuit; the choice, use, dosage and proper administration of heparin, preferably individualizing the dose for each patient; adequate application of blood product transfusion, including knowledge of the complications and risks of this procedure; adequate management of dialysis in heparin with correct priming and flushing; strict compliance with the protocol for medication administration and management of complications and symptoms of gastrointestinal bleeding; and the importance of patient and family education.
