Abstract

Objective: to determine the prevalence of ergonomic risks in lumbar and musculoskeletal disorders in health workers in the neonatology area of the Hospital General Docente Ambato. Methods: Descriptive observational study. Results: The region most affected by musculoskeletal discomfort was the neck where 30% of the discomfort appeared within the first 7 days, followed by the dorsal or lumbar region with 22.5% where the discomfort also appeared within the first 7 days. Conclusion: The highest prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in health workers is at the level of the neck and in the dorsal or lumbar spine. A considerable proportion of health workers surveyed stated that the cause of musculoskeletal disorders was the lack of training on proper posture and also overexertion in the handling of patients, in addition to the long rotating shifts to which they are exposed in the Neonatology area of the Hospital Docente de Ambato.
