Objective: To analyze the efficacy of fluoride varnish and glass ionomer in caries prevention. Method: Descriptive documentary review of 15 articles located in the PubMed database. Conclusion: At present there is a variety of restorative materials available in the dental market, which makes it easier for the professional to choose the one that suits his needs. This study analyzes the mechanism of action, the most relevant characteristics, the advantages, disadvantages and efficacy of fluoride varnish and glass ionomer for the prevention of dental caries, since these two materials have a protective effect.
