Ion fluoride on human health, effects and mechanism

Objective: To know the mechanism by which fluoride causes consequences at the level of dental health in people, as well as to know a little about its beneficial and harmful effects at the systemic level. Method: Descriptive documentary with a bibliographic review of 15 articles located in the databases PubMed, Scopus, WOS, Scielo. Conclusion: Fluoride intake is regularly used to prevent dental caries; however, the excessive and continuous intake of fluoride negatively affects human health, causing chronic fluorosis, an endemic disease that affects not only hard tissues such as bones and teeth, but also the functioning of the nervous system, kidneys, liver and cardiovascular system, to produce skeletal fluorosis in humans.
