Sleep and its interference in academic performance in medical students

Abstract

Objective: To determine the relationship between sleep and the academic performance of the 2c Medicine students at UNIANDES. Method: Descriptive type research in students of the 2C of Medicine of Uniandes. The sample was 28 students. Results and conclusions: 78.57% of the respondents have a sleep period between 5-7 hours, which is the least recommended; 78.57% study between 4-5 hours showing that the hours that students do not sleep are dedicated to study, 89.29% of students showed a lack of concentration, 64.24% of respondents have an average rating of 7 -8 points and finally 89.29% of those surveyed agree that sleep is an important factor for good performance. Poor sleep quality is inversely correlated with academic performance. The poor academic performance most associated with poor sleep quality were disorders.
