Physical and emotional state in cancer patients

Objective: To analyze the physical and emotional symptoms in patients with lung cancer or breast cancer throughout treatment with intravenous chemotherapy (QT). Method: A total of 66 cancer patients were evaluated in QT treatments, using the HAD and a symptom questionnaire. Results and conclusions: Insomnia decreased over time in patients with lung cancer and increased in patients with breast cancer. By eliminating the variance shared with anxiety and depression, it was found that most of the changes in symptoms were attributable to factors of time and type of cancer. Emotional state does not seem to have a significant influence, during QT treatment, on the presence and intensity of symptoms.
