Objective: To know the uses of minocycline extended release devices focusing on the therapy of periodontal disease and the advantages of this treatment over conventional pharmacological therapy used in this pathology, as well as to determine the degree of knowledge of the teachers of the UAO (Dental Care Unit) UNIANDES about these devices. Method: Descriptive observational study. Results: 79% were not aware of the existence of minocycline delivery devices, while 21% were aware of the device. According to the results, 79% of people did not know about the minocycline extended release device. Conclusion: The extended release devices of minocycline microspheres achieve a higher bioavailability of the drug in concentration and action reducing the adverse effects and possibility of super infections of the drug.
