Abstract

Objective: To design an epidemiological profile of acute pancreatitis, in order to determine the morbimortality characteristics, the behavior of the disease in the study population and thus determine diagnostic strategies, promotion measures, improve quality of life and avoid complications.  Method: We collected data from clinical histories. Results: A higher incidence was found in the female gender, 25 cases with 53.19% and the male gender presented 22 cases with 46.81%.  Conclusion: There was a greater number of cases in the female gender and predominantly in the elderly. Acute pancreatitis of biliary lithiasic etiology was more frequent, followed by the idiopathic cause, while the postalcoholic cause presented only one case. In order to reach a timely diagnosis, abdominal pain in the epigastrium of a stabbing type was characteristic in our population and was related to amylase and lipase values.
