Abstract

Objective: Diagnosis of the incidence of newborns with HIV acquired through vertical transmission attended at the Hospital General Docente Ambato. Method: Medical records, where specific data were obtained, showing a record of 17 newborns born with HIV acquired through vertical transmission during the period April - September 2019. Results: The review of clinical histories shows that 76% of the newborns had HIV, however, the remaining 24% of the newborns were born without HIV. Conclusion: It has also been shown that most of the newborns have acquired HIV through vertical transmission, with the main cause being the child's contact with infected maternal body fluids at the time of delivery, or the failure to perform a cesarean section, which would somehow reduce the risk of transmission.
