Estimation of ergonomic risk in the administrative personnel of the canton of Mocha, Ecuador

Abstract

Objective: To estimate the ergonomic risk in workers of the administrative area of the municipality of Mocha, Ecuador. Methods: Descriptive observational study. Results: 28% (n=14) presented discomfort in the neck; 22% (n=11) in the hand or wrist; 20% (n=10) in the dorsal or lumbar region; 18% (n=9) in the shoulder; and 12% (6) in the forearm. Conclusion: Ergonomic risk was estimated in workers in the administrative area of the municipality of Mocha, Ecuador, who presented a high prevalence of symptoms associated with MSDs, especially at the neck, hand or wrist level and at the dorsal or lumbar level, and to a lesser extent in the forearm, which represented the body area with the least discomfort. With the application of the RULA method, risk factors attributable to the development of MSDs were found with a score of 2, representing a majority, which may be due to changes in the task, so it is advisable to deepen the study.
