School performance of students from single-parent households. Literature review

The objective of this article was to analyze theoretically the academic performance of students from single-parent households in the municipality of Santa Rosa, Bolívar, Colombia. The methodology considered was based on a qualitative approach, with a documentary design supported by a review of 15 articles indexed in Scielo, Scopus, and Web of Science. The results of the literature review focused on theories about school performance and single-parent households, establishing the conceptual bases that explained the possible educational difficulties or strengths in this population group. In conclusion, it was indicated that performance has been strongly influenced by the household's ability to mitigate possible economic and time disadvantages through high levels of emotional support, parental commitment to education, and the existence of external support networks.
