The objective was to characterize artisanal fishing activity by evaluating catch per unit of effort, size structure, and its relationship to the minimum catch size, as well as to analyze the interaction between fishing intensity and the population composition of the resource. A quantitative, descriptive, and comparative study was conducted during the period from July 12 to August 12, 2025, using the aggregate daily fishing effort in Palma Real and Tambillo as the unit of analysis. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were applied. The results showed significant differences between sites, with higher CPUE values and larger sizes in Palma Real, while Tambillo had a higher proportion of undersized individuals. It was concluded that the catch reflects the availability of the resource and that size structure is a key indicator for assessing its sustainability.
