Abstract

The objective is to determine the contribution of the practice of beekeeping in the members of the communities of Manabí. To achieve this, a mixed research was carried out that considered relevant aspects of beekeeping such as: the nutritional and energizing needs of honey and its derivatives and its effect on health. The current situation of beekeeping in Ecuador and, particularly, in the province of Manabí is described, from the number of registered beekeepers and hives, the average yield of the productive units, the procedures and activities in beekeeping performance. In order to contribute to the development of this activity, a potential alternative is described, based on the community effort of those who own plots of land, in order to unify efforts, procedures, objectives and achieve results of common benefit.
