Role of the nurse in caring for patients with chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia

Objective: To describe the role of nurses in caring for patients with chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia. Method: systematic qualitative and descriptive literature review in recognized databases; more than 50% of the sources date from the last five years. Results: The review identified care functions (monitoring vital signs, taking samples, administering antibiotics), preventive functions (asepsis, catheter management, isolation, mucositis control), and educational functions (care plan, hygiene, detection of warning signs, patient and caregiver education); the usefulness of standardized protocols and risk stratification tools to guide care is highlighted. Conclusions: Strengthening protocols and ongoing training of nursing staff improves comprehensive care, reduces complications, and optimizes the management of patients with febrile neutropenia
