Abstract

Objective: to interpret nursing care in critically ill patients with severe head trauma. Method: Systematic review of 15 scientific articles. Results and conclusion: Regarding the optimization of cerebral oxygen supply, the hemoglobin thresholds from which it is recommended to transfuse are under scientific study. Recent studies have not found significant differences in the neurological response of patients transfused at thresholds of 10 g/dl versus thresholds of 7 g/dl. In addition, above a transfusion threshold of 10 g/dl, an increased risk of haemorrhagic lesions has been found. In general, it is considered that the hemoglobin levels of patients have to be above 10 g/dl; if not, the transfusion will be considered.
